Real Yield

A bond's yield after expected inflation, read in the US from Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities (TIPS). Nominal yield minus real yield gives breakeven inflation. Because gold pays no interest, rising real yields raise the cost of holding it: the 10-year TIPS yield rose from 1.89% on gold's January 29, 2026 record to 2.95% on October 5.
