Gold: what the data says
The traditional safe-haven asset, closely watched during periods of macroeconomic uncertainty, rate expectations, and central bank buying. In recent years, central banks in countries like China, India, and Russia have accumulated gold reserves at the fastest pace in decades, partly to diversify their currency reserves away from the US dollar. Unlike currencies, it's priced globally in dollars and pays no interest, a factor that makes it more or less attractive depending on the direction of real interest rates.
