The SEC Just Put Solana and XRP in the Same Category as Bitcoin

A rule change formally recognizing Solana and XRP as commodity-based trust assets landed alongside some of their strongest monthly gains in a while.

The SEC approved a rule change formally naming Solana and XRP, alongside Bitcoin and Ether, as digital assets meeting the standard for commodity-based trusts on a major exchange. It's a classification milestone, not just a price move — the kind of regulatory detail that shapes which financial products issuers can legally build around an asset.

The market reaction wasn't subtle. Both tokens logged some of their strongest monthly performance in a while, each up close to 40% on the month by some measures, and ETF products tracking them saw inflows accelerate in the days that followed the announcement.

The reason classification specifically matters is that the 'is it a commodity or a security' question has shaped which products issuers could legally offer for years, and institutional allocators have repeatedly cited that ambiguity as a reason to stay on the sidelines. Putting Solana and XRP in the same regulatory bucket as Bitcoin and Ether removes a specific, commonly-cited piece of that hesitation.

Two separate assets re-rating together on one shared regulatory catalyst, rather than one at a time, is a useful reminder that correlation across a basket of assets can spike overnight. It's good territory for practicing Spot Trading's zero-spread, real-price exposure across more than one asset at once, instead of assuming each token trades in its own isolated bubble.
