For most of Thursday, November 5, bitcoin looked calm. It touched $80,918 on Binance in the 01:45 UTC candle and spent the Asian and European sessions between about $80,200 and $80,750, holding the rebound it had made the day before.
The slide started with US futures. Bitcoin slipped below $80,000 in the 13:00 UTC hour and was at about $79,400 by 14:00. The open of New York made it worse: the 15:00 UTC candle fell from $78,288 to $77,020 on $131.9 million of volume, the next one to $76,431 on $142.5 million, and the 15:45 candle, the busiest of the day at $156.6 million and 205,352 trades, touched $75,568.
After that the price went sideways rather than bouncing. Bitcoin traded between about $75,950 and $76,400 for the rest of the US session, ending it at $76,235, as the Nasdaq closed 5.52% lower. A last push late in the evening took it to $75,208.42 in the 23:00 UTC candle, the low of the replay, about 7.1% below the morning's high, before it closed the day at $76,088.
Nothing in the crypto market itself explained the move. It came from the stock market, where investors sold technology and AI shares, and bitcoin traded like one more risk asset. Bitfinex had described Wednesday's rebound as short covering without new spot buyers; Thursday showed what happens when that kind of rebound meets a falling Nasdaq.
