Bitcoin's Election Night: $75,736 to $81,196 (November 2026)

Bitcoin slid to $75,736 as the US midterm results came in on November 4, 2026, then climbed to $81,196 once Wall Street opened higher. Replay a news-driven dip and a rebound that Bitfinex called short covering, in 15-minute steps.

Bitcoin spent the evening of Tuesday, November 3 between $77,700 and $78,100 on Binance while US polls closed. Futures turned lower as the first projections of a Democratic Congress approached, and bitcoin went with them: from $77,453 at midnight UTC it slipped below $77,000 and then fell from $76,671 to $76,170 in the 02:45 candle.

The 03:00 UTC candle was the low of the replay. Bitcoin touched $75,736.38 on $70.3 million of volume and 136,410 trades, the busiest quarter-hour of the night, then closed at $75,910. Buying returned almost at once: the 04:00 candle rose to $77,113, and by 07:30 UTC the price was back above $78,100, where it had been before the results.

The second leg came with the US open. As stocks rallied on the prospect of a divided government, the 15:00 UTC candle rose from $79,347 to $81,065 on $123 million of volume and 202,094 trades, and bitcoin touched $81,196 fifteen minutes later. It then settled around $80,200 to $80,700 for the rest of the session and ended the replay at $80,278.

Bitfinex said the rebound lacked new spot buyers and was mainly fuelled by short sellers covering positions, while US bitcoin ETFs had outflows that left their net flows for the year slightly negative. The replay shows the difference between the two halves of the day: a fall on heavy overnight volume when the news hit, and a rise on heavier volume when traditional markets opened, which says more about who was closing positions than about who was buying.
