Filecoin's Spike to $1.22 and the 15% Slide That Followed (October 2026)

On October 17, 2026, Filecoin jumped to $1.2236 in two 15-minute candles at 04:30 and 04:45 UTC on $1.9 million of volume, then fell for seventeen hours to a low of $1.0369. Replay a Saturday spike that marked the top of a week-long range.

Filecoin (FIL) spent the week of October 12, 2026 oscillating between $1.00 and $1.28 on heavy volume, $17 million to $26 million a day, as traders rotated through the tokens that had fallen most in the previous sell-off. It touched $1.2764 on October 11 and $0.9999 on October 15, and closed Friday, October 16 at $1.1558, down 0.4%, in the middle of that range.

Saturday's spike came early. At 04:30 UTC the 15-minute candle rose from $1.1753 to $1.201 on $766,000, and the 04:45 candle reached $1.2236, the high of the move, on $1.11 million, five times the volume of a typical 15-minute period that morning. The gain from the 02:00 UTC level of $1.1394 was 7.4% in under three hours. The next candle closed lower, and so did most of the ones that followed.

The slide was orderly rather than violent, which is what made it costly: $1.1501 by 08:00 UTC, $1.1134 by 12:00, $1.0879 at 15:00, $1.0673 at 17:00, each hour a little lower on steady volume of $700,000 to $1.2 million, with no bounce large enough to stop the pattern. The low came at 21:30 UTC, $1.0369, 15.3% below the morning high, on $806,000. The day closed at $1.0655, down 7.8%, and the 24-hour change at 05:00 UTC on Sunday was −11.6% at $1.0544.

The replay pairs with Celestia's reversal on the same day: both tokens had led the week's rotation, both printed their highs in the thin Asian hours of a Saturday, and both were sold through the European and US sessions by holders who had bought the rally. Filecoin's version is slower and without a single capitulation candle, the kind of decline that a trader waiting for a sharp flush to buy never gets a signal for. The level to watch next is $0.9999, Thursday's low and the bottom of the week's range.
