Gitcoin Rose 38% From a Sunday Low in Two Bursts, One at Dawn and One on Monday Morning (October 2026)
GTC fell to $0.228 at 00:30 UTC on October 18, 2026, rose to $0.2897 by 04:00 on $1.1 million in an hour, gave back 15% through the day, and then jumped from $0.284 to $0.314 in the 02:00 UTC hour on Monday on $1.6 million, its busiest hour. Replay a token that moves in bursts around 02:00 to 04:00 UTC and drifts in between.
Gitcoin's GTC, the governance token of the public-goods funding platform, had already been one of the weekend's stories before Sunday began: it rose 26.8% on Saturday, October 17, 2026 in two bursts, and earlier in the month it had printed a 137% fifteen-minute candle that became a replay of its own. It is a token with $5 million to $12 million of daily turnover whose moves cluster in the early Asian morning, when European and US traders are asleep and the order book is thinnest.
Sunday followed the pattern. After a dip to $0.228 at 00:30 UTC, the 01:00 hour rose to $0.2448, the 02:00 hour to $0.2623 on $918,000 and the 04:00 hour to a high of $0.28967 on $1.13 million, with the 04:30 quarter-hour alone trading $401,000. From the low to the high was 27% in three and a half hours. Then the drift: by 10:00 UTC the price was back to $0.24596, 15% below the morning high, having given up more than half the move without a single heavy candle.
The evening produced a second attempt and a warning. The 18:00 hour rose to $0.2786, the 20:00 hour to $0.2921 and the 21:00 hour printed $0.2945 on $924,000, the heaviest hour of the evening, before the 21:30 quarter-hour fell from $0.2721 to $0.2673, a 9% drop from the high in fifteen minutes. Sunday closed at $0.2631, up 11.4% on about $12 million of volume. Monday's 02:00 UTC hour then repeated the dawn burst with more force: from $0.2842 to $0.3028 with a high of $0.314 on $1.63 million, the busiest hour of the two days, followed by $0.3117 in the 03:00 hour and a retreat to $0.29. At 05:00 UTC the price was $0.2922, 28% above Sunday's low; the Monday high was 37.7% above it.
The replay is useful for its clock. Three bursts in two days, all between 01:00 and 04:00 UTC, each on a million dollars or more in an hour, each followed by a slow fade that gave back half or more of the gain. A trader who knows when a token tends to move knows when not to chase it, and GTC's chart over this weekend is a clear case of a token whose buyers all arrive at the same hour.
