Polkadot Rose 8% in Asia and Lost 11% by Friday Night: a 12.7% Range Behind a −2.25% Day (October 2026)
On October 23, 2026 Polkadot's daily candle reads −2.25%, from $1.112 to $1.087. Inside it, the token rose 8.2% to $1.203 by 07:30 UTC on a burst that began in one quarter-hour, fell 3.2% in a single candle at 09:15 a.m. New York time, and printed $1.067 at 22:45 UTC as bitcoin and ether sold off together. Volume was more than double the day before. Replay the day the daily chart does not show, fifteen minutes at a time.
Polkadot is one of the older smart-contract networks, and its DOT token had spent October in a range: a 5.82% fall on October 17 and a low of $1.046 on October 18. On October 22, the day of the Nasdaq's chip sell-off, it lost 2.88% to $1.112 on $7.05 million of volume. The evening of the 22nd was quiet, with quarter-hours of $20,000 to $50,000.
The rally began in one candle. Between 00:45 and 01:30 UTC on October 23 the token traded at $1.115 to $1.131 on $13,000 to $61,000 a candle; the 01:45 quarter-hour reached $1.171 and closed at $1.152, up 1.86% on $1.25 million and 10,526 trades, about twenty times its neighbours. The Asian and European mornings carried it on: $1.183 at 04:00, a high of $1.203 at 07:30, and a close of $1.199 in the 08:00 hour, 7.8% above the previous day's close. No announcement was reported for the network that day, and this replay does not guess at one.
New York took it back. The 13:00 UTC candle, 9:00 a.m. ET, slipped 1.35% to $1.171; the 13:15 candle fell 3.16% to $1.134 on $2.09 million and 8,896 trades, the heaviest quarter-hour of the day. The afternoon drifted to $1.107 by 21:45 UTC. Then, as on several other tokens that evening, the selling arrived together: the 22:30 candle fell 1.45% to $1.088 and the 22:45 candle touched $1.067 as bitcoin fell from $81,350 to $80,559.60 and ether from $2,395 to $2,351.55 within the same half-hour. October 23 closed at $1.087, down 2.25%, on $15.5 million and 111,697 trades, more than twice the previous day's turnover. At 05:00 UTC on October 24 the token was at $1.083.
The number to remember is 12.7%, the distance from the day's low of $1.067 to its high of $1.203, against a close-to-close change of 2.25%. A trader who looked only at the daily chart would see a modest red candle; one who bought the Asian breakout at $1.18 and held to the close would have lost 8%, and one who sold at the 13:15 candle would have avoided most of it. Two habits follow. Read volume with the move: the rise came on one heavy candle and thin follow-through, the fall on the day's heaviest candle and steady selling. And notice the clock: the two sharpest drops came at the New York open and in the Friday evening half-hour when the whole market sold, neither of which had anything to do with Polkadot.
