AMD Fell 13% on Intel's Forecast, Not Its Own (October 2026)
Tokenised AMD fell 7.4% within 15 minutes of Intel's results on October 29, 2026, and 13% by Friday afternoon, days before AMD's own report. Intel's weak PC outlook hit its closest rival. Replay how one company's guidance repriced another.
AMD was not on the earnings calendar this week; its third-quarter results are due on November 3. On Thursday, October 29, AMDB, the Binance token that tracks its shares, traded quietly near $565 into the US close, ending the 19:45 UTC quarter-hour at $566.93 on $114,937. At 20:00 UTC Intel, AMD's main rival in the x86 processors that run most PCs and many servers, published its results.
The token reacted to Intel's numbers as if they were AMD's. The 20:00 quarter-hour opened at $566.59, touched $567.45, then fell to $524.75, 7.4% below the previous close, and ended at $536.01, down 5.40% on $635,785 and 4,456 trades, more than five times the quarter-hour before. Intel had forecast fourth-quarter revenue of $15 billion to $16 billion against about $17 billion expected, and said it expects the PC market to shrink 12% in 2026 and 10% in 2027 as a memory-chip shortage raises PC prices; "We expect the current environment to persist until memory availability and prices begin to normalize," chief executive Lip-Bu Tan said. The first reaction overshot: the 20:15 candle rose 1.54% to $543.45, recovering more than 40% of the drop, but the hour closed at $539.97, down 4.70%.
The night took the price lower in stages. The token fell to $522.47 in the 01:00 UTC hour on Friday, recovered to $534.63 by the end of the 04:00 hour, and lost 1.70% in the 09:00 hour to $520.62 when Europe opened. Pre-market reports had AMD down about 6.5% and Dell, which assembles PCs, down about 13%. The opening quarter-hour of the US session, 13:30 UTC, swung between $507.90 and $520.82, and then the selling resumed: the 15:00 hour, the busiest of the session at $330,619, closed at $511.50, the 16:00 hour fell 1.84% to $502.03, the 17:00 hour closed below $500 at $499.14, and the 18:00 hour reached $493.23, 13.0% below Thursday.
The last hour brought a 1.95% rebound to $505.91 on $187,177, and AMD's shares closed at $504.80, down 10.88%, more than twice Nvidia's 4.22% fall; Nvidia sells few PC chips. About $3.1 million traded in AMDB during the replay. Coverage tied the fall to AMD's overlap with Intel in PC processors, a classic read-across: when two companies sell into the same market, the one that reports first sets expectations for the other, and the stock that has not yet spoken is repriced on the rival's words. Options were pricing a move of about 6.8% around AMD's own results on November 3, which will show whether its PC business is suffering as much as Intel's forecast implied, or whether the market sold the wrong company.
