Worldcoin's 9% Hour, the Fade, and the Overnight Recovery (October 2026)

On October 16, 2026, Worldcoin jumped from $0.502 to $0.5467 in the 08:00 UTC hour on $6.8 million of volume, gave it all back during the US sell-off and recovered to $0.54 overnight. Replay a spike that failed and then did not, in 15-minute candles.

Worldcoin (WLD) had been one of the stronger mid-sized tokens in the week of October 12, 2026, rising with Celestia, Aptos and Filecoin as traders rotated into tokens that had fallen the most in the previous sell-off. It came into October 16 at about $0.506 after a 2.2% gain the day before.

The spike came in the 08:00 UTC hour, at the start of the European session: from $0.502 to a high of $0.5467, up 8.9%, on $6.76 million of volume, against less than $1.6 million in any hour of the night. The next hour dropped back to $0.5206 and then rebuilt: by 11:00 UTC the price was back at $0.5463 and it held above $0.53 into early US trading.

The US afternoon undid it. As the Nasdaq fell 2% and the VIX jumped, WLD slid hour after hour to $0.4929 in the 17:00 UTC hour, 10% below the morning high and lower than where the spike had started. On a day chart it closed at $0.5169, up 2.1%, which hides the entire round trip.

Then it recovered. From $0.511 in the 01:00 UTC hour on October 17 the price rose through the Asian morning to $0.5398 by 04:00, up 7% over 24 hours. The replay is a useful contrast with the same week's spikes that faded and stayed faded, such as Gitcoin's and Starknet's: the difference was not the size of the first move but what the buyers did after the fade.
