Treasuries' Six-Day Run, Nike's Retail Rebound, Injective's Breakout

Three theoretical setups for October 16: long-dated Treasuries after six straight gains through a hot inflation report, Nike after its best day in a month on a strong retail sales report, and Injective after a 40-day high that kept extending overnight.

TLT · iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF — Bullish, Swing (1-4 weeks). TLT rose 1.37% to $79.97 on October 15, its sixth straight gain and highest close since September 23, on a day the producer price index jumped 1.3% — the most since 2022. A market that rallies through bad news is showing where the pressure is: the surprise was gasoline, the retail sales 'control group' rose only 0.1%, and the 30-year yield had its biggest drop since February. Theoretically, that favours further gains into the October 28 Fed meeting if the next data points to slowing demand. A daily close below $77.11, the lowest close of the past month, would invalidate the setup. Risks: another energy-driven inflation print, heavy Treasury supply, and a Fed that hikes anyway on October 28.

NKE · Nike — Bullish, Swing (1-4 weeks). Nike rose 5.21% to $37.14 on October 15, its highest close since September 9, on 46 million shares — 2.4 times Wednesday's volume — after a retail sales report that beat forecasts and sent the retail ETF (XRT) up 3.68%. A stock that is down about 40% this year moving to a five-week high on heavy volume is the kind of turn that often has room to run, because so many holders have given up. Theoretically, the setup favours a recovery toward the September highs while retailers keep attracting money rotating out of technology. A daily close below $35.30, the October 14 close before the breakout, would invalidate it. Risks: the retail sales beat was mostly gasoline, consumer stocks can give back a one-day jump just as fast, and Nike's own results are not due until December.

INJ/USD · Injective — Bullish, Short-term (days). INJ rose 11.43% to $8.541 on October 15, its highest close in 40 days, after an almost uninterrupted climb from $7.06 at midday UTC, and kept going overnight to $9.26 on Friday morning. Unlike this week's spike-and-fade tokens, the move came in steady buying across sessions on twice the usual volume, with a higher close followed by a higher open — the pattern that more often continues. Theoretically, that favours further gains over the next few days while it holds above the breakout hour. A daily close below $7.91, the low of the 16:00 UTC candle where the breakout began, would invalidate the setup. Risks: a 30% move in two days invites profit-taking, bitcoin is still below $83,000, and an abrupt reversal in the altcoin leaders this week has usually followed within a day or two.
